Short Summary:

During my vacation in July 2001, I filmed the moon as it rose. The phenomenon was that it rose slowly between two mountains, always climbing the slope. It was a very beautiful image. Of course, it took me about 1.5 hours. When it got darker and the moon was now directly above the mountaintop, I filmed it once from close up, so that it was still clearly visible. When I put the camera down for a brief moment to give my arms a short rest—I was using a shoulder tripod—I started filming again. At that moment, a small object passed through my field of view in the camera's viewfinder. I could only see the object for a moment, less than 10 seconds. I later said to my wife, "A helicopter just zipped through the frame; it looked great." So this film lay in the drawer for a long time and was watched several more times. After some time, I extracted a few individual images from the photos for my homepage and looked at the spot again and again. That was only recently. Now I tried to capture the moment as a still image to see if I could recognize the object better that way. But I wasn't yet satisfied with the result and decided to put these individual images on my website.

The filming location was from my hotel balcony, looking towards the Bavarian Alps, to the left of the Zugspitze.

It was the nearest mountain, the Hörnle. A map excerpt is attached to the file.
